March 26, 2012

Hey family. My week was really good, but at the same time a little difficult. For the good part, we had a baptism this last weekend. I think its pretty amazing it came the same weekend as someone in our family, Kaleb. We baptized a 28 year old lady named Irina. She’s great. Amazing faith. She is a little different, it was an amazing baptism, and Irina asked my comp if he would baptize her. There was a great turn out from the ward, all giving great support to her. She is especially close to the bishop’s wife who is also 28. (we have a young bishop, but he is great) It really was a great baptism; this moment really was the highlight of my mission so far! I’m very grateful that I was able to help her. She said one of the great reasons why she wanted to be baptized was to receive the Holy Ghost. She said she really liked what I said in on of our lessons that the Holy Ghost is the comforter, that he helps us when we feel sad or lonely and with him we are never really alone. I apparently said the right thing that she needed at this point in here life. I guess she is a little lonely in this point of her life. She’s living alone and just going to school, not many friends, and other issues. But she said she was very grateful for what I said.

Things are a little slow here in Mercedes now that we baptized Irina. We don’t really have any solid investigators yet. We do a lot of knocking doors...but what’s even more difficult is my companion sometimes doesn’t want to work. I think he’s getting super trunky.

We have about 10 people in our district…it’s a real district now. I like the city I think a little better than the country. I don’t get dirty for one, its easier knocking on doors when they’re only about 10 feet from each other rather than 100 feet or more...

I’m excited about Conference. Conference for missionaries is like another holiday. I like what you said about listening to phrases like that. From reading a little from Liahonas almost everyday, I get really excited when Apostles say “I have been pondering over this for some time”... I love hearing that phrase for some reason. I don’t know why. It just makes me feel like they really receive revelation from questions they have...and I can receive answers to my questions also.

Thank you so much family. Steve, I hope you are feeling better. Lauren, you better be nice to mom. Mom and Dad I hope work is going good, also I hope family prayer and family scripture is still a priority. I can’t say it enough how important it is to me.

Love you family. I Pray for you guys every day and night.

March 19, 2012

Hey Family This week has been pretty crazy with transfers. So I got on a bus in at 3 in the morning and arrived in Mercedes at about 11:30 am. Of course there wasn’t anyone there to pick me up. So I had to wait around the terminal for about an hour when I finally saw the missionaries. They thought I was coming in at 12 30 pm

I really like my new area, its all city, which is a huge difference between my last area.
There are also a lot of members in the ward, and they are all super awesome. We had a stake activity this last Saturday and it was really fun. They had an hour of spiritual stuff with the stake president and the bishops talk then after that they did a play of Johnny Lingo. They did good job with it. They just had funny people as the characters, people like Kevin Wilson or Don Mayfield in our ward, and then after that we had cake. They made a huge cake the night before and it tasted great.

So there are good and bad things with this area:

Good, a member family feeds us every day, and they usually bake cakes
Good, we have lots of members in our ward.
Good, we have a supermarket right next door to our apartment.

Bad, We don’t have any good investigators, we had one but something bad happened with her I`ll explain later.
Bad, people aren’t as nice as the good old country folk in Young,  I`m now trying to get used to people just slamming the door when they see me.
Bad, I have to do my own Laundry from a second floor apartment building.

Good and Bad

A Latino companion. My companion is from El Salvador; he only has about 2 months left in the mission. He doesn’t speak any English, and the only English he knows are quotes from movies. Which aren’t always mission appropriate.  But I’m working with him. Being with him has helped my Spanish a ton. But I still need to improve. I still have moments where I have no idea what these Uruguayans are saying.

He says he’s a model, he showed me a magazine from people but I’m still not sure about it. He takes forever to get ready in the morning like a model would that’s for sure.

Right now I’ve started reading the New Testament.  I can’t believe I’ve never read it before. I have really been trying to study the Saviors life and his mission as the Savior. I am also enjoying learning more about the early apostles. I remember uncle Mike asking us what were the names of the original 12 apostles and we didn’t know them all. So now I have them memorized so I am going to be ready for him when I get back.  I can relate to some of the apostles, just some of things they say and do, and their journey following the Savior.  I’m enjoying reading The New Testament.

Thank you for sending the President Holland talk. I’ve been searching everywhere.
Hope Stephen feels better, I’ll be praying for him.  Tell Lauren Hi Hope she’s doing great with school and friends.

March 13, 3012

Hey Family Well today is my last Day in Young, I found out last night that I’m leaving and my comp is staying. I’m heading south to a city called Mercedes. My new companion will be a Latino from El Salvador.  I’m super excited for that change. I’m also a little scared because they said this missionary doesn’t speak any English, so it will be a great challenge working with him but it will be fun. I leave tonight at 3 in the morning, and take a 4-hour bus ride to Mercedes. Well I am now an official missionary, no longer a trainee but I’ll be a junior companion. Thank you for the quote and the scripture dad. I loved it.
All right Family I love you tons. I’m sending a package today, so hopefully it gets to you in one piece.

PS. keep me posted on politics and what everyone is up to.

Hey Lauren What’s up! I heard that you got in a bike crash this week. I am  sorry to hear that you crashed. I hope you feel better. You have Nationals this week? I didn’t know you competed nationally, that’s pretty cool. I hope you heal up for that.
Sorry we haven’t been able to write to each other in a while. Where have you been little sister?  Well I Promise that I will do better with my writing. How’s everything going at school, church, cheer, boys, anything?
Well Lauren I’ve been doing all right, today I got a little homesick from reading your emails. I don’t really know why but I’ll get over it. So today is my last day with my trainer Elder Belk we’ve been together for 3 months now. Crazy right. Now I’m finally leaving him, it’s going to be weird without him. But it’ll be good, after this I’ll be a real missionary and not a missionary being trained.

Hey Mom. Thank you for helping me out with my cable. I’m forever in your debt.
I am super excited for changes. I am sad that I have to leave Elder Belk though.
Hopefully things will go great with my new Latino companion though. I wrote more information in dads email.  I’m super short on time, like always.
But I’m sending a package today, so I’m really excited about that. I hope you guys like it.
Love you Mom. Thank you for everything that you’ve done for me. Being out here just helps me realize how great my family was and still is, and the things you’ve done that I didn’t notice before. Love you Mom. Your son Elder Webster

March 5, 2012

Hey dad,
Uruguay’s awesome. I really love the members and the people. They pretty much take care of us here. They do our laundry every week and they feed us almost everyday of the week except Mondays and Thursdays. We either go to their house or they bring it to us and we just eat in our house. They usually make us pasta; lots and lots of pasta. Sometimes though on special occasions they make us mellinasas. Ask Kristen. They’re super good. It’s meat fried in eggs and flower. Usually its just pasta or rice.

It’s so awesome that you guys got to meet Glenn Beck. Wish I could’ve been there. I’m super jealous. It sounds like the event was awesome too. Its fun to see Glenn’s church side when he talks. I’m just used to seeing him talk on TV and just talking politics. It sounds like he’s really trying to help the church and follow the spirit.

Man, I really wish I would’ve finished The Brothers books before I left. I just say that because Chris Stewart sounds like the real deal to get the attention of Glenn.

Alright, well thank you for the updates dad. Let me know how Mitt Romney is doing. All the missionaries want to know how he’s doing and I’m the source.

Love ya dad,

Elder Webster

Hey mom,
I’m doing pretty good. This week was ok. It rained a lot earlier in the week. We haven’t really cooked anything since last p-day. I haven’t received that one letter from you that you sent with the package. Hopefully, it gets here soon. I’ve gotten letters from grandma Poulton and I really like the news paper articles she sends. My comp goes home in 7 weeks. He’s still focused. He just has moments of trunkyness. He’s also trying work harder so he can have a little more success before he leaves. Next week is changes. So I don’t have p-day on Monday. It’ll be on Tuesday instead. I’m kind of nervous because I’m finally going to get a new a comp. I’ve been with Elder Belk for 3 months now. It’ll be weird not being with him, but it will be good though because I won’t just be a kid. I’ll be a real missionary. Ha-ha.

Hey, don’t worry about the package I have time. But if you haven’t sent it yet could you add a couple things? Last week I lost my camera USB cord when we went out of town. I don’t know what happened. But I can’t find that kind the Samsung cable down here. It’s a super skinny plug in. But that would be amazing if you could send that. I’m super sorry I lost it. My comp feels bad because he had it last. Then we don’t know what happened to it.
